On his show last night Bill O’Reilly had some remarkable things to say about President Obama’s remarks Friday regarding the Martin/Zimmerman case. And by remarkable I of course mean convoluted and completely asinine. It seems that anytime our President even broaches the subject of racism the pundits and politicians on the right side of the aisle somehow think they can cleverly turn his words back around on him. I’ll copy some of his transcript from the clip so you can see for yourselves what I mean.
O’Reilly: “The sad truth is that from the President on down, our leadership has no clue, no clue at all about how to solve problems within the black community. And many are frightened to even broach the issue. That’s because race hustlers and the grievance industry have intimidated the so- called “conversation,” turning any valid criticism of African-American culture into charges of racial bias.
So many in power simply walk away leaving millions of law abiding African-Americans to pretty much fend for themselves in violent neighborhoods. You want racism? That’s racism.”
If there was ever a more inopportune time to say something so stupid, now is that time. What exactly have the politicians Bill O’Reilly throws his support behind done for areas like Detroit? There’s a rather large African American population there and while republicans may not be entirely at fault from new emails that have been released this week it’s obvious Governor Snyder has been toying with the idea of bankruptcy since January…. And that’s just one example of how our *leadership* has failed us in that area. Bill O’Reilly is mistaken completely when he talks about racism and the issues he thinks effect African Americans. It isn’t just African Americans who deal drugs, have babies out of wedlock and are undereducated, it’s everyone affected by draconian austerity policies that cut jobs, defund clinics for women and our public education system. It’s not just a certain race that has problems with poverty and crime it’s the citizens of low income America, period. We need more investment in our public education, better access to women’s health facilities, Medicaid expansion, lower student loan rates, and maybe something republicans really don’t want to talk about; a JOB’S BILL!
