Following a series of protests, arrests, attacks and even deaths related to the gay marriage debate, President Francois Hollande signed the bill into law on 28 May that officially made same sex marriage legal in France. The first ceremony in France was on May 29th, one day after the bill passed and protests and threats continued to get worse.
Some officials still refuse to perform the ceremonies; some because of their religious beliefs, others because they fear reprisal from the anti- gay protesters who have threatened them. Google + has given French couples an alternative to getting married in a public hall.
