The Michigan Chamber of Commerce had previously announced their support for fracking (queue shady handshakes and backdoor dealings) but now they’ve literally torn open the envelope and launched a campaign in support of hydraulic fracking. This new handy-dandy website contains all kinds of helpful and enlightening information such as:
MYTH: HYDRAULIC FRACTURING CAUSES WATER TO BECOME FLAMMABLE NOT TRUE. Where gas occurs in water wells, it is almost always from natural pockets of methane gas. Over time, gas seeps into the water well and is transmitted into the home. It has been documented in Michigan public health advisories dating back to the 1960s. It has never been associated with hydraulic fracturing. There have been a few rare cases where gas from drilling operations has escaped into fresh water aquifiers; however, that was caused by improper well construction, not hydraulic fracturing.
And let’s not forget this gem! Perhaps the residents of Michigan can all hold hands and sing “Kumbaya” while the Great Lakes state falls into ruin and decay.
FACT: HYDRAULIC FRACTURING IS SAFE AND PROTECTIVE OF THE ENVIRONMENT
Companies in Michigan have been using hydraulic fracturing to maximize oil and gas production for nearly 50 years. Approximately 12,000 wells have been fractured in that time, and fracturing has never jeopardized the environment or public health.
The Committee to Ban Fracking is trying to get a measure on the 2014 ballot to prohibit horizontal hydraulic fracturing. The Michigan Chamber of Commerce is so afraid of any talk opposing fracking they even made a video about it. Seriously…they’ve got to have some unseen investments in this.
