In Brooklyn, New York, a man named Roman Pirozek, Jr. was killed by one of his remote-control helicopters when it lost control and struck him in the head. According to ABC News, he is only the second American to be killed by a remote-control helicopter.
Pirozek was a huge fan of RC helicopters and flew them often. He had a YouTube Account dedicated to his hobby.
The models he flew were gas-powered, turbine choppers with two foot-long carbon fiber blades. He was a part of a group of remote control helicopter pilots who are well aware of the dangers involved in this hobby.
Eaton Boyce, a friend of Ramon, had this to say:
We’re all concerned about our own personal safety, but things happen, things happen.
Weah Roberts, an RC Helicopter Expert who repairs them, believes it was likely a mechanical malfunction.
You’ve got something with whirling blades. It’s like knives.
You get hit with that, it’s no joke.
