A North Carolina KKK group admittedly made the mistake of dropping off hundreds of recruitment fliers in a Florida neighborhood where the residents are predominantly black. To find out who came up with this bright idea, Florida’s WFTV investigated this incident.
Over the phone, KKK leader Robert Jones said the fliers were dropped off in the New Smyrna Beach area at night, so they didn’t know who lived there.
WFTV’s Ryan Hughes: You say this was a recruiting effort, however, your group targeted a predominantly black neighborhood.
Robert Jones: Well, we don’t have no way of judging where we’re putting the fliers at.
The follow morning, residents found the letters on the ground in front of their homes, prompting 4 of them to call police and report what they found.
Ericka Blount, who lives in New Smyrna Beach, had a message of her own for the Klansmen.
Stay away from our neighborhood. We live together here. All different races.
