Morgan Freeman laid into the Tea Party in late 2011 during an interview with Piers Morgan of CNN.
Morgan asked Freeman about Obama’s presidency and the positive or negative effect it has had on the alleviation of racism in America. Freeman answered that it had made things worse.
“The Tea Partiers who are controlling the Republican party … their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term,” Morgan said. “What underlines that …[mentality of] ‘Screw the country, we’re going to do whatever we can to get this black man out of here?'” he asked. “It is a racist thing.”
Freeman said he was disappointed that Obama hasn’t been more aggressive in taking on the Tea Party, but went on to note that “I also understood that he was trying to hold onto his own promise. He would be president of all the people”.
